Out of the Department of Justice’s Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Program grant came a community driven strategic plan from the Northwest Side of Indianapolis that outlines a series of evidence-based programs and interventions that will lead to crime reduction and community revitalization.
The City of Indianapolis used these EPA Assessment Grant funds to conduct community outreach, site prioritization and environmental site assessments in and around Massachusetts Avenue and the Brookside Industrial Corridor.
This grant through the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Fair Housing Initiatives Program allowed the Fair Housing Center of Indiana to increase its capacity to conduct lending investigations to determine violations of fair housing laws while continuing to advocate for quality placement of affordable housing opportunities and develop education and outreach on fair lending
King Park Area Development Corporation used this Community Economic Development grant from the Department of Health and Human services to make below-market loans to Indy’s Kitchen and Venticello Ristorante, creating 40 full-time, permanent jobs, 30 of which were filled by low income residents.
This Community Economic Development Program gran from the Department of Health and Human Services allowed Englewood CDC to upgrade a vacant, contaminated industrial space on East Washington Street into the space that headquarters Nelbud, formerly known as Team 360 Services. This created 35 permanent full-time jobs, 27 of which were reserved for low-income neighbors.
RecycleForce used this Community Economic Development grant from the Department of Health and Human Services to expand its business, increasing its capacity to separate and process recyclable material, extend its hours of operation, and create 40 new full-time jobs.
The Small Business Association awarded this grant to the Business Ownership Initiative of Indiana to support its Women’s Business Center, which offers counseling to women entrepreneurs at all stages in their careers with an emphasis on service socially and economically disadvantaged clients.
Through the Department of Agriculture’s Farmers Market SNAP Support program, Growing Places Indy hired a dedicated EBT manager for the Indy Winter Farmers Market to provide vendors and low-income shoppers with training and technical support related to SNAP. These activities ultimately increased consumption of farmers market products by SNAP beneficiaries among their customers.
Through its Health Careers Opportunity Program gran from the Department of Health and Human Services, the Indiana University School of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences provided disadvantaged students with the academic and social skills required to successfully enroll, progress, and graduate from health profession programs in geographic areas with significant health disparities.
