What You Will Be Doing:

IndyEast Promise Zone VISTA members will work with staff and committees to achieve goals related to Community Engagement, Housing, Education, Public Safety, and Economic Development, and Job Creation. Selected candidates will serve for 12 months. General duties include:

  • Coordinate Promise Zone committee and working group meetings.
  • Work with committees and community partners to implement activities and interventions that will accomplish Promise Zone goals.
  • Develop and implement strategies to communicate and engage with neighborhood residents the successes and challenges of the Promise Zone.
  • Work with the Promise Zone Director, Indianapolis and IU Public Policy Institute and other evaluation partners to collect data and report outcomes to various stakeholders.

The Communications Coordinator will collaborate with the Promise Zone Director to develop, refine, and implement a communications strategy for the Promise Zone across multiple platforms. This communications strategy will include telling the story of the Promise Zone initiative to a diverse group of stakeholders, including federal and city government, funders, and neighborhood residents. The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for managing multiple platforms of communication, including the existing Promise Zone website (www.indyeast.org) and social media pages. The Communications Coordinator will also join forces with a wide array of community partners to capture and share success stories that demonstrate the impact of the Promise Zone in the neighborhood areas related to Housing, Education, Public Safety, Economic Development, and Job Creation.

The Economic Mobility Coordinator will work with Promise Zone Director and local leaders to develop opportunities to increase economic stability and mobility for residents on the Eastside of Indianapolis. To accomplish this, the Economic Mobility Coordinator will collaborate with nonprofits, businesses, and local government to research and implement strategies for individuals and communities to create and retain wealth. The Economic Mobility Coordinator will facilitate steering committees and workgroups that focus on asset building, entrepreneurship, adult education, and workforce development, social enterprise, and more. The Economic Mobility Coordinator will act as a bridge between residents, local organizations, and the Promise Zone while researching best practices, planning activities, and developing partnerships to support economic prosperity that is inclusive, sustainable, and grounded in community.

The Evaluation & Research Coordinator will track quantitative and qualitative performance metrics for IndyEast Promise Zone initiatives. This member will support ongoing data collection, research, and asset mapping efforts across Promise Zone goal areas related to Housing, Education, Public Safety, Economic Development, and Job Creation. The Evaluation & Research Coordinator will collaborate with our well-established data team in addition to other local research partners to refine the Promise Zone data collection system. The Evaluation & Research Coordinator will prepare data sets and evaluation reports for Promise Zone steering committee meetings and workgroups. The Evaluation & Research Coordinator will also collaborate with the Promise Zone Director and Promise Zone steering committees to support evaluation components of neighborhood engagement projects—including, but not limited to—stakeholder surveys and interviews.

What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program designed to fight poverty. Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. AmeriCorps VISTA is open to all U.S. citizens, nationals or lawful permanent resident aliens age 18 and older. In return for their service, members receive a modest living allowance and health benefits during their service, and have the option of receiving an education award or post-service stipend after completing their service.
