The IEMD’s UBI Pilot Program ran from October 2022 to March 2024. The three neighborhood center partners selected 15 District residents at random from a pool of those already engaged with one of the centers (each center selected 5 participants).
These participants received $500 a month in unrestricted funds through a debit account for an 18-month period. Participants met quarterly as a cohort and monthly with designated financial counselors. Monthly and exit surveys indicated participants achieved measured goals in employment, education and training, credit scores, and social-emotional well-being.
This pilot program now serves as the basis for our Guaranteed Basic Income Program.
