Southeast Community Services, Edna Martin Christian Center, and John Boner Neighborhood Centers partnered on an 18-month universal basic income pilot that provided 15 Indianapolis families with $500 per month, no strings attached. Participants used the funds to cover essentials including rent, utilities, groceries, transportation, and unexpected expenses. The pilot demonstrated how direct financial support can give families greater stability, flexibility, and agency—and the participating community centers hope to offer the program again.
