The IEMD is committed to strengthening residents’ financial stability by expanding access to effective tools—like guaranteed income, debt relief, and savings programs—that remove immediate burdens and create long-term opportunities. Our asset-building approach focuses on meeting families where they are, reducing financial stress, and helping residents grow wealth over time. Through programs such as IndyEast Guaranteed Income, Opportunity Savings Programs, and Medical Debt Relief, our goal is for residents to gain the freedom and security needed to pursue larger goals.
Together, these strategies empower residents to build a solid financial foundation, reduce stress, and open pathways to homeownership, higher education, entrepreneurship, and long-term economic mobility.
Strategies
- A targeted guaranteed-income program that provides direct, unconditional monthly payments to stabilize household finances and improve well-being
- A matched-savings program that helps residents build assets for homeownership, repairs, education, or entrepreneurship
- A community-centered initiative that eliminates or reduces medical debt for eligible residents, removing a major barrier to long-term economic mobility

"It's time for us to acknowledge that health care is a fundamental human right, not a privilege reserved for the wealthy. We must strive for a system that ensures affordable access to quality care without the fear of financial ruin."
